In stressful times, it’s important to “know your red flags” shares clinical psychologist Desiree Dickerson. To manage moments of distress, “identify key thoughts or physical sensations” as well as feelings, that have historically contributed to you feeling overwhelmed. They feed each other and contribute to “emotional spirals,” according to Dickerson. She encourages people to address just one aspect of the thoughts-feelings-physical sensations triangle for improved results. For example, one minute of an engaged breathing exercise can help you reset during a stressful moment.
